{"id":254,"date":"2008-10-07T10:06:29","date_gmt":"2008-10-07T16:06:29","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.skipfitz.net\/blog\/?p=254"},"modified":"2008-10-07T10:15:12","modified_gmt":"2008-10-07T16:15:12","slug":"where-you-when-op-died","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.skipfitz.net\/blog\/?p=254","title":{"rendered":"Where You When OP Died?"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>We&#8217;ve all done it: we&#8217;ve been happily jamming to a tune at high volume in our car, windows down, when we roll up to a red light and find a bunch of people staring at us.\u00c2\u00a0 Apparently, not everyone is convinced Barry Manilow&#8217;s <em>Can&#8217;t Smile Without You<\/em> is a rip-roaring song worthy of blast-level sound.\u00c2\u00a0 To some, this is an embrassing reveal of our souls, to others&#8211;espeically those of us in\u00c2\u00a0 high school way back in the mid-&#8217;90s&#8211;it was a great opportunity to pull up next to a hapless red light victim and start blasting away the first few lyrics of this song:<\/p>\n<p><object classid=\"clsid:d27cdb6e-ae6d-11cf-96b8-444553540000\" width=\"425\" height=\"344\" codebase=\"http:\/\/download.macromedia.com\/pub\/shockwave\/cabs\/flash\/swflash.cab#version=6,0,40,0\"><param name=\"allowFullScreen\" value=\"true\" \/><param name=\"src\" value=\"http:\/\/www.youtube.com\/v\/9hAtWrXTpwU&amp;hl=en&amp;fs=1\" \/><\/object><\/p>\n<p>Ah&#8230; Lion.\u00c2\u00a0 You were like Dokken wannabes.\u00c2\u00a0 And those in the cars next to us (for yes, I had cohorts) were okay with the heavy metal-ish chords which started off the song.\u00c2\u00a0 But when Lion sang &#8220;Transformers!&#8221; it ain&#8217;t nothing but a baleful gaze they sent our way.<\/p>\n<p>Anyway, speaking of\u00c2\u00a0 youth, there are some world events where the announcements of such blaze a marker in your mind so deep and so permanent that you know exactly where you were when you heard, say, about JFK&#8217;s death (not me;
